City planners aim at more proactive role

The Monticello Local Planning Agency (LPA) has resolved to get more serious about its planning mission. The group recently decided to hold regular monthly meetings and workshops in order to work proactively on the local code and recommend ways to strengthen the rules to better protect the city from the unwanted or unintended consequences of development.
The group’s resolve largely stems from the recent application of a Dollar General Store that was seeking to locate on a property on West Washington Street, just east of Johnston’s Meat Market. The business withdrew its application at the last minute without explanation. But not before the planners h
