City sets public hearing on proposed budget and millage rate

A recent recap of the city’s budget for the coming fiscal year shows a forecast of increased revenues and expenditures, with a slight tax increase in store for property owners, if the council sticks to its proposed millage rate of 6.8501 mills.
The Monticello City Council is scheduled to hold its first public hearing on the tentative budget and millage rate at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11.
The millage rate, as proposed at the city council workshop on Tuesday, Aug. 20, represents a 13.13 percent increase above the rollback rate, which is 6.0505. Currently, the millage rate is 6.2829.
