City stormwater system needs upgrading

Monticello’s old and malfunctioning stormwater system is another issue that city officials will likely have to face sooner rather than later, according to City Manager Seth Lawless.
Lawless told city officials at the group’s retreat at the library on Friday, May 10, that the stormwater system was performing poorly, causing flooding in a number of neighborhoods.
“This isn’t a one-time fix,” Lawless said. “It has to be upgraded and maintained.’
The bigger problem, however, was that no one really had any idea about the extent of the system or where it was located, he said.
