For the second time in as many months, the City of Monticello amended a contract with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) having do with the upgrade of the water system on South Railroad Street.
The first amendment in September reduced the scope of the work to bring it into budget, as the bids far exceeded the city’s available funding. The second amendment, approved on Tuesday evening, Oct. 3, gave the city an extension to complete the repairs, with a new end date of September 2026.
The work, which is an ongoing project of the city, involves replacing its aging water system,
which is estimated to be losing about 200,000 gallon
