Monday through Wednesday next week, Monticello motorists should expect to find the downtown roundabout – the Jefferson County Courthouse Circle – closed to traffic by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT).
This closure takes part as the next segment of milling and paving operations on Highway 90 that the FDOT work crews have been conducting since June.
The courthouse roundabout will be closed to traffic starting at 6:30 p.m., on Monday, July 6. The Courthouse Circle will remain closed as crews work throughout the night and will reopen at 6:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning, July 7. The circle will close again at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday night, but will finally reopen completely at 6:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 8.
During the nighttime construction closures, FDOT crews will establish a detour route through Monticello and the route will be clearly marked for motorists.
In addition to the Courthouse Circle's closure, there will also be intermittent eastbound lane closures on Highway 90, from about 8 a.m. to dusk, Monday, July 6 through Friday, July 10.
Motorists should expect travel delays, as FDOT work crews will be putting into place flagging operations to help guide drivers safely through the construction zone.
All planned construction activities are weather dependent and may be delayed or rescheduled in the event of inclement weather. Motorists are reminded to pay attention to the posted speed limit when traveling through any construction areas, to watch for construction equipment that may be entering and leaving the roadway and to use caution when driving through the work zone.
Speeding fines are doubled when workers are present.
