
Coming back to life

We're well into spring around here now, and even the various nut trees – notoriously the last holdouts – have begun to sprout leaves. At our place, we have been pleasantly surprised to see that some of the recent hurricane-toppled trees are still trying to give it a go, despite having more than half their roots broken off. This includes the two chestnut trees we were so sad to see keeled over last year. When we thought they were dying after the storm, they were just going dormant, sort of as usual. Now they have bright green foliage and blooms. Wow! That's inspiring. Next time I get knocked sideways by a force of Nature, I'm going to remember the re
