Commission joins state’s effort to disqualify Reams’ attorneys

Along with Interim Clerk of Court Jason Welty, the Jefferson County Commission has now also submitted an affidavit objecting to the Collins Law Firm’s representation of Kirk Reams in the latter’s criminal case. Reams, formerly the clerk of court, is charged with felony fraud and organized scheme to defraud. Welty, along with the commissioners, say the Collinses’ representation of Reams poses a potential conflict of interest, as the Collins Firm earlier represented both the clerk’s office and commission in other matters.
