The Jefferson County Commission is scheduled to hold a special meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 28. The meeting, which will be held at the Courthouse Annex, is to discuss two grants that the county is seeking.
One application is for a $2.3 million grant for the demolition of the old high school gym on Water Street and construction of an emergency shelter/multipurpose space in its place, along with creation of an adjacent recreational pavilion.
The second grant application is for funding to allow the county to get technical and planning assistance to help it diversify the local economy.
Representatives of Trulieve are expected to attend the meeting and provide the commission with information about its marijuana-growing operation near the small community of Waukeenah and possibly address residents’ concerns about the facility.
The Courthouse Annex is located at 435 West Walnut St.
