Animal lovers in the Monticello community got some heart-breaking news on Jan. 2 of this year. Beloved veterinarian, Dr. Carrie Lee B. Baxley of Animal Medical Clinic, sent out a heartfelt letter to her clients, stating that after 15 wonderful years of veterinary services, she will be hanging up her lab coat and dedicating more of her time to her family.
“I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know you and your pets over the last 15 years,” says Baxley in the letter. “It has been my pleasure and certainly a privilege to provide care for your beloved furry family members and I appreciate the trust you have placed in me and our hard-working staff. I love being a veterinarian and will continue to hold the special relationships we have built close to my heart.”
“As you know from the many stories and photos I have enjoyed sharing with you through the years,” continues the letter, “ I also dearly love being a mother. My husband and I have three wonderful children who are growing up quickly. It is my desire at this time to focus more on my family and spend more time with them while I can.”
“I am transferring your pets to the already familiar veterinarians and staff of Animal Medical Clinic in whom I have utmost confidence. Drs. Matthew Davis and William Cone will continue to provide skilled and compassionate care for your pets and will have access to the detailed notes I have made in your pet's medical records. They are actively looking to hire a third veterinarian and will notify you when they have found the right person to join their team. Until then, they appreciate your understanding and patience as they continue to serve the needs of all of our existing clients.”
This has brought forth a wave of fond goodbyes from both the community and her colleagues at AMC, who will miss her dearly as she enters this new chapter of her life. The following are messages from the public to Dr. Baxley in the spirit of warm wishes and farewell:
“I am just sad. She had such a calming effect on Gunner, who hates going to the vet and hates having to wear a muzzle. He didn't have to keep his on with her and for that I truly appreciated her. You could ask her any question and she always took the time to give you an understandable answer and a solution that would be best for you and your pet.” – Teri Smith.
“Dr. Baxley is a very intelligent, soft-spoken veterinarian with a caring heart. She has seen our Boston terriers over the years, along with Dr. Davis, and we always have full trust in their training and experience as veterinarians.” – Robbie Slack.
“I have always entrusted Dr. Baxley with my menagerie of animals. She has seen my pets grow up over the years and has helped them through ‘terrifying’ annual checkups and occasional sickness, and has always made them feel as comfortable as possible. Her gentle hands and thorough diagnosis will be sorely missed! Much love and well wishes from Ru, Bones, Kiki, Calcifer, May, Nebri and Pudge (and from Ben and I, of course!). – Heather Ainsley.
“Dr. Baxley was definitely my favorite vet up there while working at the shelter. She's beyond sweet and super helpful with explaining things. She never minded me ugly-crying in her exam rooms!”
– Shirley Sue.
“I am happy for her, but I'm really going to miss her.” – Rande Davis
“Verity and I will miss her. She's taken the best care of her and helped me through the scary process of being a first-time dog mom.”
– Zoey Lee.
“Dr. Baxley was sharp and incredibly attentive to detail. I will miss having her here as a partner and a colleague. We have been there for each other through many tough times in both of our lives and I can't thank her enough for her unwavering support in the hard times of my life. I sincerely wish her the very best. She can never be replaced but the legacy and standards she left behind will remain.”
– Matthew Davis.
“Dr. Baxley was more than a boss to most of us, she was a mentor and a person I aspire to become. I'm so grateful for the many learning experiences she provided. It was a true honor to work for and with Dr. Baxley for the last six years! Love you, Bri.” – Brianna Sober.
“Dr. Baxley was a one of a kind boss. I have been so blessed to get the chance of working with her. I have learned so much from her. She has one of the kindest hearts. I didn't get the chance of working with her as long as others, but I'm glad I did get a chance. I will miss you lots. Much love,” – Lydia Hall.
“Dr. Baxley was one of the sweetest, most caring people to know. She loved getting to meet new people and talk to everyone. She always has an open ear when we need our pets looked at or just to talk to her about our animals or life. I have learned so much from her and have enjoyed getting to work with her through the last few years I have been here. I will miss you so much. Love you!” – Brittany Haney
“Dr. Baxley was one of the best bosses. She always took the time to explain concepts to not only us, but to her clients. She is someone we all look up to! Dr. Baxley has the sweetest heart, and we will miss her so much! We love you!”
– Madison Whiddon
“Dr. Baxley will be missed by so many people. She was one of the best veterinarians I have ever gotten to know. Thank you for all the times you took care of my fur-babies!” – Peggy Smith.
In the closing words of Dr. Baxley's farewell letter, “Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your family health team for 15 wonderful years. My family will remain in the area, and I hope I will get to see you out in the community.”
Dr. Baxley, the animal-loving community of Monticello thanks you for your diligence, care and compassion that you have provided countless times over the last 15 years. While we will miss your gentle mannerisms and clinical expertise, we wish you the very best in this next chapter of life.
