Hailey’s Heseltine ECB Publishing, Inc.  Mary Edwards Bryan was born on May 18, 1838, to parents John D. Edwards and Louisa Crutchfield Houghton Edwards on their plantation near what is now the Lloyd community. It was in Lloyd that she spent her early years being educated by her mother and exploring the rural North Florida outdoors. The areas surrounding Lloyd were sparsely populated then; prior to Walter and Sarah Lloyd platting the little community and the construction of the Lloyd Railroad Depot in the 1850s, only a few mills and plantations dotted the areas.
