On Saturday, June 3, the Jefferson County Advisory Council and local staff of Big Bend Hospice gathered together along a two-mile stretch of North Jefferson Street that spanned from the Courthouse to Boston Highway. Council members were equipped with safety vests and trash bags, and spent the morning picking up garbage and other debris from the roadway. This Saturday clean up project was the first of many that the Council will take part in, as part of the county's Adopt a Road Project, and the team gathered a whopping 10 bags of garbage and removed it from the roadside!
The Council adopted this stretch of Monticello roadway as a thank you to the community for their support of Big Bend Hospice and to honor Big Bend Hospice on its 40th anniversary. They will continue their regular maintenance of this two-mile stretch of road on a quarterly basis.
