On the cool, Saturday morning of Dec. 10, individuals of all ages lined up in their most festive running outfits for the first Monticello News Jingle Run! As the sun slowly rose, the chilly morning mist hung low along the grassy fields and stately tree lines, shrouding everything in a very dense fog. The merry ring of sleigh bells rang through the peaceful haze as runners ranging from beginner-level to professional made their way along the tranquil trails.
As the much-beloved Rudolph was not present to light the way, some of the runners got a little turned around in the fog, but this merely led to scores of laughter and frivolity between attendees, and Monticello News staff did everything they could to ensure that nobody was off-track for long.
After the very last cheery runner had crossed over the finish line, awards were presented in the following categories:
Best Christmas Attire: Stacey Lee, who actually designed and made her own Jingle Run shirt that very morning for the event!
Overall Male Winner (5K): A three-way tie between running buddies Caleb Erisman, Sam Edwards and Jacob Erisman, who ran the entire 5K track (and then some!) as a group.
Overall Female Winner (5K): Alexis Mayfield, who ran alongside her father. The duo crossed the finish line with a time of 33.09 minutes!
The 1-Mile Winner: was a tie between Chiara Lemmon and her friend Apphia Erisman, who completed the
mile fun-run together.
Congratulations to the winners, who were presented with prizes and medals after the event. This event was a very fun way to enjoy a misty Saturday morning! Talk is already underway about a St. Patrick's Day Glow Run, the details, dates and times of which are to be announced at a later date, so keep an eye out in your favorite local newspaper for more information soon!
