Heather Ainsley ECB Publishing, Inc. In mid October, GrannyKat's Bee Apiary and Learning Center hosted a unique creativity contest. The contest was held in coordination with this year's Farm Tour, and the winners were selected by those who visited GrannyKat's while participating in the tour. The boxes that were painted are called nucs, and are special boxes that house a smaller, starter colony for beekeepers. A colony will live in a nuc box until it grows big enough to be moved to a larger bee hive.
