
Cops not cameras
On the front page of the March 26 Monticello News, I read about a criminal that was speeding through the school zone. Fortunately there was a deputy there to apprehend him. The trend in Florida and elsewhere unfortunately is to monetize this enforcement by using automated for profit cameras in school zones. As a retired trooper, I oppose these taxation by citation devices just as I opposed the similar red light cameras about 10 years ago. I am a huge proponent of officers enforcing the law. Why?
