
County adopts ordinances on public camping and amended floodplain map

County officials recently approved two ordinances, one addressing public camping, and the second amending the floodplain ordinance and map, each in keeping with a state or federal government requirement, respectively.
The first ordinance, which the Jefferson County Commission approved on Thursday, April 17, related to public camping and sleeping in other than designated recreational areas, as mandated by the Florida Legislature effective Oct. 1, 2024.
More specifically, the legislation prohibits cities and counties from allowing individuals to camp or sleep in public buildings, grounds, properties or rights-of-way.
