County budget nears $55 million
(Officials eye tax break for property owners)

In the latest update of the county’s proposed operating budget for the coming fiscal year, which begins on Oct. 1, county officials were asked to choose the millage rate for inclusion in the Truth In Millage (TRIM) notices that the property appraiser will soon be mailing out to residents.
Budget Officer Gus Rojas presented the Jefferson County Commission with two choices for the millage rate on Thursday morning, July 18. The first choice was to retain the millage rate at its current level of 7.95 mills; the second was to adopt the rollback rate of 7.8266 mills.
