County creates citizen’s recognition award

Jefferson County is poised to combat the media notion that because of the “gatekeeping” nature of news, the ordinary person rarely receives recognition, except if he or she is the victim of a tragedy, commits a crime, or dies and warrants an obituary. It’s to say that county officials have now established a program to recognize and honor local residents who have demonstrated exceptional volunteer service, civic leadership and care for their community.
