
County does well in latest audit; some problems persist

According to the latest annual audit report for Fiscal Year (FY) 2023, the county did financially well for the period, but it is still not completely out of the woods in terms of its internal controls and other issues.
CPA Chris Moran, of Moran and Smith LLP, presented the audit’s findings to the Jefferson County Commission on Thursday, March 20, hitting only on the highlights of the 83-page report.
Bottom line, Moran told the board, when all was said and done, “you're sitting on $9.6 million, and you went up about $2 million. So you had a pretty good year.”
