
County officials extend local fuel tax

County officials recently voted to approve an ordinance extending the imposition of four cents of the six-cent local option fuel tax through Dec. 31, 2036.
Budget Officer Gus Rojas and County Attorney Evan Rosenthal presented the request to the Jefferson County Commission on Thursday morning, May 1, explaining that the current tax was set to expire at the end of December 2025.
By law, counties may impose up to 12 cents of local option motor fuel taxes, 11 cents of which must be shared with municipalities.
