County reaffirms intent to collect special assessments

Just before the end of 2024, local officials adopted a resolution of intent in keeping with an annual procedural requirement that state law mandates if a county plans to levy and collect non-ad-valorem assessments in the future.
The resolution, which the Jefferson County Commission approved late last year (on Thursday evening, Dec. 19), allows for the levy and collection of non-ad-valorem assessments for such services as fire protection, solid waste collection and disposal, and the regular maintenance of specified private roads, such as in the Aucilla Shores subdivision.
