County sets in motion process to impose impact fees

County officials have given the go ahead for a study to determine the feasibility of imposing impact fees on new development to compensate for the increased demands that growth will place on public services.
On Thursday, March 7, the Jefferson County Commission approved a professional services agreement with consultant David Taussig and Associates (DTA) to do a comprehensive impact fee study that will recommend an economically and legally supportable set of impact fees to offset the growth-related costs to services such as fire protection, emergency medical services, law enforcement, road maintenance and parks and recreation upkeep.
