
County to consider ordinance on public camping and sleeping

As a creature of the state, Jefferson County is falling into line with new state requirements, its latest move in that direction the consideration of an ordinance amendment to prohibit camping or sleeping in public places, except for special circumstances.
Ordinance 2025-00 (last two digits yet to be assigned), which relates to public camping and sleeping, is scheduled for a hearing and adoption at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 17, in the courthouse annex on Water Street.
Per the memo from County Manager Shannon Metty, County Attorney Heather Encinosa and Deputy County Attorney Rosenthal Evan, the Florida Legislature last year adopted a bill prohibit
