County updates dangerous dog ordinance (Dog-biting incident here draws attention from far away)

Dangerous dogs were a hot topic of discussion at a recent commission meeting, largely due to revisions to the dangerous dog ordinance, but also because of a year-old dog-biting incident that caused several women from across the country to join the local conversation via zoom.
As County Attorney Heather Encinosa explained it to the Jefferson County Commission on Thursday evening, April 18, under the then existing structure, a dangerous dog determination could only be made by an animal classification committee after receipt of a sworn petition, and the decision had to be appealed to the county court.
