For the second time in one week, elderly patients from Cross Landings Health and Rehabilitation Center have been removed from the facility under orders of the State of Florida Surgeon General.
The first time this week was on the evening of Tuesday, April 14, with the second move taking place on Thursday, April 16.
Reporters with ECB Publishing, Inc. were informed that the patients were all ill with COVID-19, and the orders from the surgeon general instructed for them to be moved from the health and rehab center to an out-of-county hospital, where they will receive further care and quarantine from the nursing facility's other patients.
Families of the removed patients have been informed of the move.
ECB Publishing, Inc. reached out to the office of the surgeon general for an official press release as well as further information, but has not heard back from the office's media representatives.
As of press deadline, there has only been one Jefferson County death that is potentially related to COVID-19.
On Wednesday, April 15, the Jefferson County Department of Health confirmed that there are at least seven cases of COVID-19 in local long-term care facilities within the county.
However, the department did not provide any information on whether Cross Landings is the only care facility with confirmed COVID-19 or if the Brynwood Health and Rehabilitation Center is also caring for COVID-19 patients.
