As of Monday, March 22, persons age 50 and older are eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine, according to the Florida Department of Health in Jefferson County (FDOH-Jefferson).
The department also announced receiving a small batch of the Johnson and Johnson one-dose vaccines, which it planned to offer for a very short period on Tuesday because of the limited supply.
The department, however, continues to offer the Moderna vaccine, which requires two doses over a period of weeks.
Pam Beck, public information officer for the FDOH-Jefferson, urges all eligible indivuduals to call the department at (850) 342-0170 to schedule an appointment for the vaccine (press the number 1 twice when prompted by the automated voice to schedule the appointment).
Meanwhile, all persons previously identified as eligible for the vaccine remain so, including those age 60 and older, and K-12 employees and childcare workers, law-enforcement officers and firefighters 50 and older.
Residents should also keep in mind that the local Winn Dixie and CVS pharmacies are also offering the vaccine shots by appointments.
Winn-Dixie Pharmacy in its website states that it is prioritizing employees in the education field for the COVID-19 vaccine appointments “regardless of age.”
The company website states that its directive “includes teachers, school staff and childcare workers employed in preprimary, primary and secondary schools, as well as Head Start and Early Head Start programs (including teachers, staff and bus drivers) and those who work as, or for, licensed childcare providers, including center-based and family care providers.”

The CVS Pharmacy also is offering vaccinations, although it was temporarily out of the vaccine as of Saturday, March 20. Others CVS pharmacies in the area, however, continue to provide vaccinations by appoinment. The nearest two to Montciello offering the vaccine are in Tallahassee, at 3035 Apalachee Parkway and at 3644 Coolidge Court.
