Cox reelected mayor, Richardson vice mayor

Lazaro Aleman ECB Publishing, Inc. Councilwoman Gloria Cox will retain the office of mayor for a third year. And Councilwoman Katrina Richardson will serve as vice mayor during the period, taking the place of Councilman John Jones. The votes on the mayor and vice mayor took place toward the end of the city council meeting on Tuesday evening, Jan. 7, in keeping with the annual tradition that marks the start of a new calendar year. A largely honorary position, the mayor’s vote counts the same as the other council members’. The role, however, carries a certain distinction, as the mayor is the public face of the city and gets to represent it at civic, political and ceremonial events.
