Anna-Marie Wilson – May 26
On Tuesday, May 26, Anna-Marie Wilson, 20, of Alabama, was arrested by a Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) Trooper on grand theft charges.
According to Trooper Cabe's report, he had stopped on the side of US 27, at around 7:40 a.m., to assist a vehicle that was parked by the roadside; Trooper Cabe noticed that the vehicle's hood was up, and on the driver's side of the vehicle, a part of the window's glass had been broken.
Trooper Cabe made contact with the young woman, later identified as Anna-Marie Wilson, who was standing beside the disabled vehicle. Trooper Cabe asked Wilson if she needed assistance, and Wilson advised that she had broken down on the roadside. Wilson then informed Trooper Cabe that this was her mother's vehicle and that she had stolen it.
At that point, Trooper Cabe contacted the Tallahassee Regional Communication Center (TRCC) and provided them with the license plate number for the vehicle. At the time, the grey Ford Taurus that Wilson was driving was not registered as stolen.
Trooper Cabe asked TRCC dispatchers to contact the car's registered owner and find out whether or not they knew where their vehicle was or that Wilson was in possession of it.
Even though Wilson provided dispatchers with her mother's driver's license information, as well as the address where her mother lived, troopers were not able to make contact until dispatchers found a second address connected to Wilson's mother.
After finally making contact with Wilson's mother, troopers were advised that the mother had seen Wilson steal her car and had told her to stop, as Wilson was not allowed to use the vehicle.
Additionally, the mother told FHP Trooper White that she was going to report the vehicle as stolen, but had not had an opportunity to do so yet; the mother confirmed that she wanted to press charges against Wilson for the theft of the vehicle.
Several other witnesses provided sworn affidavits, confirming that Wilson had stolen the vehicle.
Anna-Marie Wilson was placed under arrest at 8:38 a.m. for grand theft of a motor vehicle and transported to the Jefferson County Jail.
Rufino Lewis, Jaleel Crumbley
and Maceo Lewis – May 28
Rufino Carpardre Lewis, 26, of Winter Park, Fla., Maceo Jabari Lewis, 22, of Tallahassee, and Jaleel Rashod Crumbley, 24, of Lakeland, Fla., were arrested by a Jefferson County Sheriff's Office (JCSO) deputy for several drug-related charges, including trafficking synthetic cannabinoids.
According to Lewis' arrest report, on Thursday, May 28, at 1:47 a.m. JCSO Investigator Peacock was traveling west on I-10 when he observed a Chevy Impala traveling in the inside, left lane.
The vehicle began to swerve, causing another vehicle to have to break heavily to keep from colliding with the Impala.
Inv. Peacock pulled in behind the swerving Impala to read off the vehicle's tag information and then conducted a traffic stop on the swerving vehicle.
Rather than pulling off onto the roadside, the vehicle came to a complete stop within the inside lane of I-10, resulting in Inv. Peacock having to approach the parked Impala and ask the driver to pull off of the roadway and onto the shoulder.
After the vehicle had pulled onto I-10 median, Inv. Peacock informed the driver that he had stopped him for failing to maintain his lane.
The driver, identified as Rufino Lewis, provided a non-valid Florida driver's license and informed Inv. Peacock that his erratic driving was because he was tired from a long ride; he added that he and his two passengers, Maceo Lewis and Jaleel Crumbley, were all headed to Tallahassee from a boxing event.
After running all three men's identifications through dispatch, Inv. Peacock learned that Rufino Lewis was a registered gang member.
JCSO Cpl. Burrus and Deputy Krajewski arrived on scene to provide assistance and Inv. Peacock asked Rufino Lewis to step out of the vehicle to speak with him.
While talking to Rufino, Inv. Peacock could smell the odor of marijuana coming off his person, and Rufino freely admitted that they had smoked a couple of joints a short while ago. When asked if there were any other illegal substances in the vehicle, Rufino said no – they had already smoked it all, he said.
Inv. Peacock then asked one of the passengers, Maceo Lewis, to step out of the vehicle.
Maceo told deputies that he had “just woken up,” when asked if there was anything illegal in the vehicle.
Inv. Peacock approached the vehicle again, this time to ask the other passenger, Jaleel Crumbley, to step out of the vehicle and he witnessed Crumbley reach for the vehicle's center console several times. Also, when Crumbley stepped out of the vehicle, Inv. Peacock saw pieces of marijuana fall from Crumbley's lap.
When asked if there was anything illegal in the vehicle, Crumbley said no.
Even though all occupants had denied there being anything illegal in the vehicle, deputies had probable cause to search the car due to seeing the pieces of marijuana in Crumbley's lap and Rufino's statement that they had been smoking earlier.
During a search of the vehicle, deputies found several plastic bags containing marijuana and a silver scale.
After that initial find, all three occupants were placed in handcuffs.
A following search of the vehicle found more bags, this time containing synthetic marijuana, and a box of plastic baggies.
All three men were placed under arrest and transported to the Jefferson County Jail.
The illegal substances were weighed and the report states that deputies found a total of 96.2 grams of marijuana and 1,119.2 grams (a little over two pounds) of synthetic marijuana in the vehicle.
None of the three men took custody of the marijuana, so all three were charged with trafficking narcotics and having possession of marijuana with the intent to sell.
John Grant – May 29
On Friday, May 29, John Michael Grant, 32, of Monticello, was arrested on the authority of a Jefferson County warrant that called for his arrest.
According to Grant's warrant, he had been sentenced in 2018 for the offense of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. Part of his sentencing was to be placed under probation for five years.
Grant broke the terms of his probation in May of 2020 when he was found to be in possession of a weapon without first procuring the permission of his probation officer. Grant further broke his probational terms when he was found to be using intoxicants to excess, as he was found in possession of alcohol and marijuana.
A warrant for Grant's arrest was written and sealed by Judge Caloca-Johnson on Tuesday, May 26, and Grant was taken into custody several days later by Jefferson County Sheriff's Deputy Arnold.
Grant was booked into the Jefferson County Jail following his arrest.
