A portion of Curtis Mills Road has been closed by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) due to repairs being made on the road's bridge.
Curtis Mills Road is a mixed pavement and dirt road that is located between Aucilla/Drifton Highway and Thompson Valley Church Road, and covers a little over a mile of residential and wooded land.
A third of a mile from the north entrance of Curtis Road (off Aucilla/Drifton Highway) is a bridge that crosses over Buggs Creek, and the FDOT reports that the bridge is undergoing a variety of repairs and replacements.
According to the FDOT, work teams will be installing new guardrails and drainage improvements, laying new pavement and sodding as well as placing new pavement markings on the bridge.
Due to the extensive repairs, FDOT is not expecting the bridge to reopen until Spring of 2020. Motorists are advised to use Thompson Valley Road, Turkey Scratch Road and Aucilla/Drifton Highway as detour routes until the bridge's reopening next year.
All planned construction activities are weather dependent and may be delayed or rescheduled in the event of inclement weather – so while the state is planning to reopen the closed portion of Curtis Mills Road in spring of next year, the reopening may be pushed back based on weather and work conditions.
