Starling Musings is officially extending the deadline for their Halloween Art Contest, in the hopes of giving last minute artists and crafters a chance to finish up their spooky designs and submit their artwork for this year's contest.
Previously, this weekend would be the final chance to submit entries, but the deadline has now been extended to the second week in October, and now entries may be submitted anytime before Sunday, Oct. 13.
A $10 entry fee will apply for each entry, but there is no limit to how many art pieces a person may submit. Half of each entry fee will be placed in a special prize pot, and the winner of the contest will win the pot on Halloween!
This year's contest has been sponsored by Art Enchanted, a local freelance art business stationed out of Monticello that specializes in pet portraits, wood-burnings, watercolors, acrylic painting and more. Art Enchanted has donated an additional $50 toward the Halloween Contest's prize pot, which gives an overall boost to the cash prize at the end! This means the winner of the contest will receive a minimum of $55 in cash, even if they are the only ones who enter the contest.
For those who haven't yet submitted their art pieces, now is the time! All mediums are welcome. The gallery is a public space, where families and children are welcome, so the team at Starling Musings requests all entries be tastefully scary. Please refrain from submitting artwork you wouldn't show to your cool grandma or to your therapist.
Artwork depicting excessive gore, sexual themes, nudity, extreme violence, and/or self harm or harm to others will not be accepted. Hatred toward any demographic of person, as well as political statements will also not be tolerated.
If anyone is struggling to come up with a concept for their submission, consider any one of the following prompts:
• You wake up and see a monster in the corner of your room. Draw what you see.
• There's something creepy underneath your bed. Are those teeth?!
• What is that sound, following you in the woods?
• What is the worst creature to find hiding in your shoe?
• How many legs are too many legs?
• The thing you adopted at the pound isn't a real dog.
The team at Starling Musings looks forward to receiving your entries. After the extended deadline has passed, voting on a winner will begin. Winner will be decided by votes from the community. May the creepiest creation win!
