Debby’s damage more extensive than initially believed (Hurricane debris pickup set to begin Aug. 26)

Turns out that Hurricane Debby, which slammed into the Big Bend area as a Category-1 storm on Monday, Aug. 5, was far more devastating than originally believed, now that the field reports are coming in.
“Initially, we just didn't look quite as bad, but now that the numbers are coming in, we know we’re going to get on the disaster declaration list,” Sheriff Mac McNeill said last week, referring to FEMA’s Aug. 11 announcement that storm-impacted residents and communities in the region would be eligible for federal disaster assistance. Jefferson County, however, was not included in that initial declaration.
