Doris James Brake, 89, of Tallahassee, went home to the Lord Saturday morning, July 10, 2021. Born in her beloved Miami, Fla. on August 5, 1931 to William and Clare James, Doris graduated from Miami Edison Senior High and was an active member of the "Over the Hill Gang".
More than anything Doris loved her family; she was a true matriarch and brought people together for celebrations with food and fun. Over her lifetime she baked hundreds of elaborate, one-of-a-kind cakes for birthdays, weddings, and anniversaries. Doris was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Monticello and you could always count on her to cook up something tasty. When you went to her home for a visit, the "icebox" was always full and you never left hungry. She was an accomplished seamstress, able to sew anything, from fancy dresses to pillowcases, but catered to the children with stuffed toys, costumes, and doll clothes.
Her loss will be felt deeply by her surviving sons: Ivan Allbritton (Linda) and Matthew Mingorance (Roxanne); brother: Sam James (Patty); and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews & extended/blended family members.
Predeceased by her "wonderful husband of 44 years", Allen Brake; daughter: Ethel Brock (Jerry); son: William Pitchford; and brother: Dwight James (Louise), she is thrilled to join her loved ones in heaven.
Respecting her wishes there will not be a service. In her own words, "Don't bother when I'm dead, I won't be alive to know about it."
