Drug deal near park leads to two-year prison sentence

Darryl Javon Hayes of Monticello, Fla., born Nov. 18, 1981, was charged with Sale or Possession of Controlled Substance with Intent to Sell or Deliver within 1000 feet of a Park and Possession of Controlled Substance (filed Aug. 12, 2022). The Arrest Affidavit indicates that Hayes was arrested on Aug. 10, 2022, on an outstanding warrant for a March 1, 2022, transaction in Monticello, Fla., involving 0.3 grams of crack cocaine. On Aug. 11, 2023, Hayes pled no contest to the charges, and on Aug. 14, 2023, he was found guilty by Judge Dawn Caloca-Johnson in Circuit Court at the Jefferson County Courthouse.
