Drug-laced dollar found at local business

On Friday, Jan. 12, the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office (JCSO) released a statement to alert the community about an alarming discovery made in Jefferson County. According to the statement, a crumpled dollar bill containing a white, powdery substance was found on the floor of a local business. When JCSO responded to a call from the business owner they tested the substance for possible illegal drugs.
The testing of the substance was positive for both cocaine and fentanyl. In a medical setting, fentanyl is used to treat severe pain, by means of pain relief and reducing pain sensitivity in the body. It is a synthetic opioid that is extremely addictive,
