Early and mail-in votes racking up

A snapshot of the voting on Wednesday afternoon as the clock ticked towards election night on Tuesday, Nov. 5, showed the number of local voters who had cast ballots via mail or early votes increasing by the hour, if not the minute.
As of 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30, a total of 4,482 ballots had been cast, 1,330 of them by mail and 3,143 by early votes, amounting to 44.77 percent of 10,012 active eligible voters in the county. The figures, moreover, were changing constantly.
By political parties, the figures showed a breakdown of 1,646 ballots cast by Democrats; 2,390 by Republicans; 400 by No Party Affiliates; and 46 by others.
