Famed American humorist, novelist and newspaper writer Mark Twain once said, “The plan of the newspaper is good. If you can't get a compliment any other way, pay yourself one.” That is exactly what The Florida Press Association did on Friday, Aug. 5, when they held their annual Weekly Newspaper Awards luncheon during the Florida Media Conference in Ponte Vedra, Fla. ECB Publishing, Inc.'s two Jefferson County newspapers, the Monticello News and the Jefferson County Journal, won their share of state awards.
Third-place awards were won in the categories of: Informational Graphic, Best Headline and Health, Medical & Science Reporting. A second-place award was won in the category of: Portfolio Photography.
“These awards are a testament to the hard work and dedication exhibited by our entire staff every day,” said Publisher Emerald Greene Parsons. “We are blessed with a team/family that knows, loves, lives and breathes the want and desire to bring our citizens the knowledge of what is happening around them. We all look forward to serving the citizens of Jefferson County for many years to come. Never question the importance of a free press.”
