Education in the early days

Most North Florida children today either attend a public school, private school, or are homeschooled. However, the system we know today took many years to develop. Learning locally was a very different experience throughout history. During the early 19th century, the idea of public, state-funded schools began to take root, especially in the New England. For children in the rural south, however, this would not come into fruition for decades. Florida only became a United States territory in 1821, when settlers and their families began flooding in.
