Stop paying people to sit home
In all my years of being a business owner, I have never heard the desperate cry of businesses needing help as loudly as I do now. It is almost impossible to find new workers/employees.
America is experiencing a labor shortage – in a whole new perspective. A labor shortage is usually defined as there being more jobs than people out of work. However, in today’s world, it means there are plenty of people to work; they just don’t want to.
Question: What is causing this labor shortage? Why is it so tough to find employees?
Answer: Everyone is getting stimulus checks; everyone is getting high unemployment checks; the people in this country are getting lazy and no one wants to work.
That is a huge problem!!!
Working, for money, is how you buy houses, how you save for your future, how you build a retirement, and how you pay your bills; this is how an economy works – with people actually working.
Although the latest national jobs report shows that only 266,000 jobs were added while they were expecting 975,000 jobs to be added for April, President Biden spoke, saying, “This is progress. A testament to our new strategy of growing this economy from the bottom up and the middle out. It’s a clear testament to why it’s so needed. Some critics said that we didn’t need the American Rescue Plan…”
This seems to be a very weird spin from this current administration. They say they have spent trillions of dollars on creating jobs and are bragging about jobs created, but yet businesses are actually having to close down because they cannot find employees. And in response to this problem, the administration says, “We need to spend trillions more.”
There is a lot of reason to be concerned here!!! Sometimes when you try to treat a problem – it only creates a more significant problem!
Overly excessive unemployment insurance is actually dampening down demand for jobs. Not demand from the employers, but from people not willing to give up very generous, not necessarily needed, benefits.
This is not “progress.”
People will not want to go back to work until the government stops providing incentives for them to stay at home. The government’s additional unemployment benefits have made it possible for people to make $900 per week to not work.
Yet the White House explanation has been, “Though some individual employers may be experiencing increased difficulty finding workers, we haven’t seen widespread labor shortages. They are not yet evident in the data.”
I’m not quite sure how the White House can try to explain this problem away, except they don’t live in the ‘real world’ with the rest of us. The government is pumping trillions upon trillions of dollars (that we don’t have) into the “economy” expecting it to make people get out and work. Still, all it is doing is making people want to continue to sit at home and collect “free” money.
Meanwhile, in the real business world: stores are having to cut operational hours because there are not enough employees to keep the business open; restaurants are having to set aside extra tables that cannot be served because of the lack of waitresses; hotel rooms are not able to be rented out because of the lack of employees to clean them; and fewer cars and appliances are being made.
This is not rocket science. This is a mean, vicious circle. You have to take the money away. When people are PAID to sit home and they know the government will continue to give them free money, they will not go back to work. When people don’t go back to work, businesses suffer tremendously. Businesses are not able to stay open. Businesses go out of business. Businesses are not able to produce enough goods. The supply and demand get out of balance. Our consumer prices go up and our interest rates increase.
It really is that simple!
And this is how socialism begins!
