Farmers and ranchers who want to learn more about available emergency resources can attend an upcoming meeting offered on Aug. 13 by Jefferson County Emergency Management in association with the Florida Dept. of Agriculture and UF/IFAS and FAMU extension services for Jefferson County.
Among many speakers are Emergency Management Director Kristy Anderson with the latest information about hurricane preparednes as well as representatives from the Florida Dept. of Agriculture with updates about the New World screwworm and the mealybug. Other partner agencies also will be on hand to share preparedness information, discuss available resources and answer questions.
The event takes place Thursday, Aug. 13, 5:30-7:30 p.m. at 2729 W. Washington Hwy.
“There will be free prizes and giveaways,” says Anderson, “but most importantly great information. This free educational meeting will provide valuable information on how to protect your livestock, horses, other animals and your farm before, during and after any disaster. Whether you own a large farm or just a few animals, we encourage you to attend and learn how to better prepare for emergencies.”
