Exploring the Letchworth-Love Mounds

Did you know that Jefferson County is home to a state park?
Resting on the border between Jefferson County and Leon County near Lake Miccosukee is the Letchworth-Love Mounds Archaeological State Park. The park is home to several Native American ceremonial mounds, including Florida's largest known mound, which stands at roughly 50 feet tall and 300 feet wide. The mounds contained here are some of the oldest in the state.
The site has been a subject of archaeological study in the past, given its historical significance; few mounds like this remain in the state. It was originally discovered in 1932 by geologist Herman Gunter and archaeologist J. Clare
