On Saturday, March 20, 2021, Fannie Mae Purvis, loving mother of five, went to be with the Lord. Fannie Mae passed away at Your Life in Tallahassee, Fla.
A graveside service will be held 10 a.m., Saturday, March 27, 2021, at Oakfield Cemetery in Monticello.
Fannie Mae (Mutt) Purvis was born on June 2, 1928, in Madison County, Fla. She married George (Shorty) Purvis and was happily married for 68 years before his passing in 2014. She lived through the depression, World War II, overcame poverty, ovarian cancer and covid. She spent 92 years on this earth making sure others came first.
After raising her five children, she entered the workforce as a bookkeeper at the Pepsi Cola Company in Tallahassee, Fla. She was an amazing cook and baked and decorated many cakes for weddings, birthdays and anniversaries. Her home always had an open door and an extra plate at the table for anyone that stopped by for a visit.
She was a devout Christian who taught her children to love the Lord, and always prayed God would use them for His glory. She instilled in them the value of hard work, honesty and doing a task to the best of their ability.
Fannie Mae was preceded in death by her father, Horace Bass; her mother, Minnie Bass; two sisters, Neita Taylor and Minnie Lee Newborn; and one brother, Russell Bass. She is survived by three brothers, Ellis Bass, Charles Bass and Jerry Bass (Christine), as well as her children, Joan Rhodes (Aubrey), Wendell Purvis (Carol), Diane Lee (Ken), Frank Purvis (Nancy) and Dr. Mike Purvis; her 10 grandchildren, Gina, Bryan (Jodie), Chad, Anthony, Chris (Bethany), Lori (Bobby), Brian (Laura), Jason (Monica), Michael and Tommy; and 20 great grandchildren.
