This March, the Jefferson County Farm Bureau hosted a Farm Bureau Poster and Essay Contest for first and fifth grade students at Aucilla Christian Academy. The Poster Contest was held for the first graders of Mrs. Tonya Roberts' class and Mrs. Debbie Stephens' class, and the Essay Contest was held for the students in Mrs. Katie Fletcher's fifth grade class.
The first graders were instructed to create a poster depicting a farm. Students were permitted to use any medium they wished to create these posters, including crayons, colored pencils, paints, cotton balls, popsicle sticks and more. Paper was provided by the Farm Bureau and sent home to the students, who were given free reign on what the contents of their farms might be. Posters were permitted to include anything that might be found on a farm, from animals, barns and crops to equipment, people and tools. All entries were submitted to the public relations team of the Florida Farm Bureau in Gainesville, where they were judged and awarded prizes!
Winners from Mrs. Stephens' class were:
First Place: Alivia Borklund
Second Place: Jase Vinson
Third Place: Kennedy Matthews
Honorable Mention: Hagan Hickman
Winners from Mrs. Roberts' class were:
First Place: Cruz Assad
Second Place: Beau Hightower
Third Place: Alden Cruce

The fifth graders each submitted an essay response to the prompt, “Why is agriculture important to America?” Each essay must be 100 words, written in each student's best handwriting. This contest is intended to illuminate the importance of farming in our society, and encourage a better understanding and appreciation for agriculture. Winners from Mrs. Fletcher's class were:
First Place: Ava Surles
Second Place: Sophie Ashworth
Third Place: Matthew Paul
Honorable Mention: Macy Morgan
The Jefferson County Farm Bureau awarded the students with prizes and a pizza party for their classes for their participation in the contests.
