Danielle Sprague, local Agricultural and Natural Resources Agent at the Jefferson County Farm Bureau Extension Office, was recently awarded the Florida Farm Bureau Federation's 2020 Extension Professional of the Year Award. Out of all the nominees sent in by Florida's counties, she was chosen to receive the award.
The recipient is selected by a panel of judges appointed by the State Office. The winners are then chosen based on their involvement in their County Farm Bureau and their impact on the agricultural community. The Jefferson County Farm Bureau said, “Danielle filled the void we didn't even know we had,” and she must be doing a fantastic job, as ultimately she was the one selected by the judges.
“I didn't even know I was nominated for it,” Sprague recalled. “I just found out that I had received it, and I was so surprised, but I was happy to be chosen.” Sprague has only been with the Jefferson County Extension Office for two years, since Jan. 2, but already she is making a significant impact in her workplace and the community. She “helps out with anything they do” and has organized and helped set up many events such as assisting with the speech contest, helping with donations to local food drives, doing youth outreach days, helping with Aucilla Ag day and many more. “I just work with the Farm Bureau to spread the love of Ag,” she says.
The recipient of this award is given a plaque and a cash award; the nominating county also receives the same amount to go towards a new or existing project conducted with the local extension office. “It's a pretty big award,” Sprague states. “It's the most awesome award I could get in my career. It shows that the people I serve recognize me.”
