A fatal, single-vehicle crash occurred on Wednesday, Sept. 29, at approximately 9:30 a.m. near eastbound mile marker 221 on I-10 in Jefferson County.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) report, a semi tractor-trailer was negotiating a curve in the highway when it veered onto the paved shoulder, sideswiped the guardrail and left the roadway. The semi crossed the grass, entered the wood line and collided with several large trees. When the vehicle's cab hit a tree, the trailer swung sideways and broke open, spilling its cargo of toilets and sinks across the wooded crash scene (as seen in the photo at right.)
The driver, a 43-year-old male from Clinton, Miss. (name withheld by FHP), was pronounced dead at the scene by the Jefferson County Fire Rescue (JCFR).
FHP was assisted at the scene of the crash by JCFR and the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office.
