Final hearing on county budget and millage rate is Sept. 25

County officials recently held the first of two required public hearings on the budget and millage rate for the coming fiscal year, a procedure that lasted mere minutes and attracted zero citizen participation.
The county’s proposed tentative millage rate for fiscal year 2024-25 is 7.8266 mills, which represents the rollback rate, or the rate calculated to produce the same tax revenue as in the current fiscal year, taking into account increased property valuations. By state law, taxing authorities that choose to impose other than the rollback rate must advertise it as tax increase.
After opening the hearing to public comment on the millage rate and
