The annual Homecoming contest for the Aucilla Christian Academy (ACA) Warriors was delayed for two weeks, thanks to Hurricane Ian. When Homecoming finally came around on Friday, Oct. 14, it was a full day of fun with a parade and a pep rally. The festivities were topped off with a football game against the Harvest Community Warriors.
Jace Grant and Sammi Drawdy were crowned the ACA 2022 Homecoming King and Queen. After they were announced, the new reigning King and Queen and the Homecoming Court lined up together to watch the fireworks show held in their honor.
The ACA Warriors had another stellar performance from Grant, who proved himself to be not only the Homecoming King, but the king of the backfield as well. He chalked up his fourth consecutive game with 200+ yards rushing. Grant finished the night with 236 yards on 24 carries, with four touchdowns. By the second quarter, the ACA Warriors were up 20-0. Then in the third quarter, Ethan Bass ran in his own touchdown, giving ACA a 34-0 advantage. Harvest Community managed to get on the scoreboard late in the third quarter when Zaire Davis maneuvered through a slew of Aucilla Warriors running in a touchdown. Harvest Community opted for a successful two-point conversion for their first eight points of the contest. With 2:45 remaining in the third quarter, Harvest Community’s Maddox Cooper made another touchdown. The team added another two-point conversion, making the score 34-16. During the fourth quarter, the ACA Warriors held on to win their Homecoming game with the final score of 34-16.
Grant was named the Offensive Player of the Week for ACA. Aiden Day was named the Defensive Player of the Week for his one tackle, one caused fumble and one fumble recovery. Brandon Key was named the Practice Player of the Week.
The Warriors (5-2) will finish their schedule on the road. Next up will be a game against the Bulldogs of Bell High School, on Friday, Oct. 21. The Bulldogs have a record of 4-4 and are coming off a 26-19 loss at the hands of Interlachen High School. Bell High School is located at 930 S Main St., in Bell. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
