The former pastor of Monticello's First United Methodist Church, John Hicks, announced the tragic news that his beloved wife, Kathy, suffered a massive stroke on Tuesday, March 21. The stroke caused bleeding in the brain, and Kathy did not regain consciousness.
“God answered my fervent prayers for healing, not as I had hoped. He blessed her with the ultimate healing,” says a grieving John, “and she is now with Him in Heaven.”
He continued, revealing that his wife's wishes following her death were to have her eyes donated so that someone could receive the gift of sight. Her body was then cremated and her ashes will be scattered in a place she loved dearly in life.
John has decided not to hold a funeral service, but instead invites any and all from the community to join him in a dinner in her memory. Monticello's First United Methodist Church, located on 325 W. Walnut St., will be hosting a “Home-going” celebration dinner in honor of Kathy on Wednesday, April 12, at 6 p.m.
“This will be a special dinner in honor of this special lady,” says John, “who has been my love, best friend, soul mate, ministry partner and teammate for the last 30 years. I would appreciate your prayers.”
