Florida's longest yard sale has been canceled for this spring, with plans to return this fall instead.
For quite some time now, Flea Across Florida has brought thousands of visitors to small communities across the state on Highway 90; shoppers have filled up motels, brought out-of-town business to restaurants and small local shops.
Flea Across Florida has also helped fund many non-profits by allowing them to continue their business of helping people.
For marketers, this spring flea market has provided the perfect time to clean out their garages and homes of unwanted items that can instead be sold.
Flea Across Florida has always been a fantastic mixture of individual yard sales and businesses offering specials. Shoppers have even made it a family and friend function, as it offers the opportunity to visit many communities they may not have visited otherwise.
Flea Across Florida is put on by people across the state simply to help communities that have been left behind by the interstate system.
However, with the recent state of concern regarding coronavirus spread, the Flea Across Florida organizers announced on Tuesday, March 17 that they will be canceling the spring market.
"We have been closely monitoring current events surrounding the COVID-10 virus and what it means to public health and gatherings," the organizers wrote. "While we love to bring the people together and the added revenue into our small communities next month, based on advice from the CDC and our local governors, we just can't risk the health of our wonderful citizens, shoppers or vendors."
Instead, the Flea Across Florida organizers say that they will be focusing their efforts on planning the annual fall market, which will be held in early September.
