It is always nice to do something good for someone while simultaneously advocating for something you're passionate about. The Florida CattleWomen and the Jefferson County CattleWomen took this thought to heart, and decided to do something nice for people who help us everyday—our firefighters.
The Florida CattleWomen Association is an organization that advocates for the beef industry every day through education and promotion of the beef industry, whether it's providing beef samples and such at certain fairs or events or doing beef appreciation dinners for their first responders—what they did for our firemen here in Jefferson County. They try to share different ways that you can prepare beef as well as the lifestyle of the Florida rancher. They educate on beef byproducts and how practically no part of the cow goes unused, only around 20 percent of the cow is not used after it's been processed. The cow goes into many other things than just beef consumption, and that's just some of the knowledge the Florida CattleWomen Association is trying to spread throughout Florida. They also advocate for young women and want to help them in the beef industry, they even have scholarships to help.
The Florida CattleWomen work closely with another organization, the Florida CattleMen, and they work all around Florida trying to spread this awareness of the beef industry. March in particular is their firefighter appreciation month, so they're going around the whole state and serving beef lunches to our first responders. “We want to give back to these first responders that give every day,” Casie Holloway, President of the Florida CattleWomen, said. “They give their dedication and loyalty, and we want to thank them for that.” So, after Holloway was clued in to our firefighters here in Jefferson County, she set up a day and brought them lunch on Monday, March 22, with the help of one of the local members, Angela Pridgeon.
The Florida CattleWomen along with the Jefferson County CattleWomen, brought in four big crockpots—two filled with egg noodles and two filled with beef tips—as well as a salad and two deserts for a well balanced meal. While they all enjoyed their meal, the CattleWomen conversed with the firefighters and, through fun conversation, told them about the beef industry and what the Florida CattleWomen stand for.
If you'd like to learn more about the Florida CattleWomen, you can go to their website at floridacattlemen.org/fcw/ or visit their Facebook page Florida CattleWomen. If you would like to apply to become a Florida Cattle Woman you can either apply online or email floridacattlewomen@yahoo.com and Holloway will send you an application.
The firefighters were thankful for the meal and the Florida CattleWoman were happy to not only spread to knowledge of the beef industry, but give back to those who give to us every day.
