Florida Dept. of Health - Jefferson

Many Floridians are unaware of the extensive role their county health department plays in hurricane response efforts. While today serves as an important reminder for the public to prepare for hurricane season, it also presents an opportunity to educate the community about our role during a hurricane.
DOH-Jefferson plans for hurricane season year-round. One of the most important ways we prepare is by training and exercise. Our teams participate in ongoing training, including FEMA courses, to stay ready for emergencies. One important part of our work is preparing for special needs shelters. Before hurricane season, we conduct practice exercises to make sure these shelters can open quickly and run smoothly for those who need them most.
We also stay active in the community by attending local events, workshops and outreach opportunities. This allows us to connect with residents, answer questions and share important safety information.
We participate in these activities to support our community when they need us most. It gives us an opportunity to meet our neighbors, hear their concerns, and relay important information that they might need if there is a disaster heading our way.
