This softball season continues to be a banner year for Aucilla Christian Academy grad Kelly Horne as she plays for the Lady Trojans of Troy University, in Troy, Ala.
On Saturday, March 19, in the bottom of the fourth inning of the Lady Trojans' game against the University of Louisiana/Monroe, Horne hit a solo home run to help lead the Lady Trojans to a 9-1 victory over their Sun Belt Conference rivals. The homer marked Horne's 100th career run batted in (RBI). This puts Horne just eight RBIs shy of the top ten in career RBIs in Troy University history, with 26 games remaining in Horne's junior season. The hit was also Horne's seventh long-ball of the season and her 17th RBI. So far this season, Horne has an impressive .429 batting average.
The Lady Trojans have a record of 18-7 this season. They will host a double-header with the Lady Seminoles of Florida State University on Wednesday, March 23, at 3 p.m. and at 5 p.m.
Horne is the daughter of Kevin and Nicole Horne. She graduated with honors from Troy University in the spring of 2021 and is currently in her second semester of a master's degree program in sports management at Troy University.
